Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) and Viasat Inc., a leading company in satellite communications, announced their collaboration to elevate the in-flight experience by integrating Viasat’s high-speed Wi-Fi service across Royal Jordanian’s fleet. This decision is part of Royal Jordanian’s ambitious strategy to expand and update its aircraft lineup, committing to installing Viasat’s connectivity solutions on over 40 planes, including the upcoming Embraer E2, Airbus A320, Airbus 321, and Boeing 787-9 models. Additionally, the airline will upgrade its existing Boeing 787-8 aircraft with this top-tier Wi-Fi system.
This service aims to offer passengers superior online experiences, featuring rapid internet access, a range of streaming entertainment choices, immediate communication tools, and productivity enhancements to stay connected during flights. Viasat’s cutting-edge Wi-Fi will support Royal Jordanian’s diverse route map, spanning the Middle East and further, with the Embraer E2 jets covering short-haul journeys, Airbus A320 family planes designated for medium distances, and Boeing 787s assigned to the airline’s extended international flights.
Commenting on the new IFC relationship, Samer Majali, Vice Chairman / Board Designee CEO of Royal Jordanian Airlines, said, “We are committed to providing our passengers with a superior in-flight experience. By introducing high-speed streaming Wi-Fi on our new fleets, and even installing it on some aircraft of our existing fleet, we are enabling state-of-the-art connectivity while in-flight, and providing passengers with an enhanced and curated entertainment experience. We are looking forward to introducing the first Wi-Fi on board our E2 Embraer Jets arriving by the end of this month.”
Don Buchman, VP and GM of Commercial Aviation at Viasat, said, “As Royal Jordanian Airlines looks to enhance its passenger experience for the future, we are proud to be part of enabling a next-level experience through fast and resilient connectivity wherever Royal Jordanian Airlines flies. We have worked closely with the team at Royal Jordanian Airlines to develop a solution that will match its goals and provide an advanced experience for passengers. We look forward to a successful relationship for many years to come.”
The move to adopt Viasat’s in-flight connectivity (IFC) reflects the growing demand for such technology worldwide, a trend that Viasat has capitalized on by focusing on the aviation sector. The company aims to provide a seamless and rich Wi-Fi experience on board, capable of handling high demand periods through its high-throughput satellite capacity.
Royal Jordanian’s future routes across the Middle East, Europe, and North Africa are expected to benefit significantly from Viasat’s robust, high-capacity Ka-band satellite network and the forthcoming ViaSat-3 constellation, promising an unmatched in-flight connectivity experience.
