At the Singapore Airshow, Pratt & Whitney, a business under RTX (NYSE: RTX), has announced a $20 million investment aimed at boosting its manufacturing capacity in Singapore for the production of high pressure turbine (HPT) disks used in Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines. This move is anticipated to result in a workforce increase of over 10% at the facility within the next two years.

Currently, Pratt & Whitney’s Singapore plant manufactures 2,400 turbine disks annually. With this expansion, the annual output of these disks is projected to surge by approximately 45% by January 2026. Alongside increasing production, the expansion will enhance the facility’s capability to handle raw materials, manage inventory, and ensure timely production and deliveries.

“This is a critical expansion to enable us to keep pace with the fleet of GTF engines and high-pressure turbine disks. With this latest development we are focused on automation and connectivity as part of our commitment to Industry 4.0 principles that aim to enhance operational efficiency and productivity,” said Marc Paquet, general manager for P&W NGPF Manufacturing Company Singapore Pte Ltd.

In June 2023, Pratt & Whitney’s manufacturing facility in Singapore achieved full operational capability, marking a significant milestone in the company’s production of vital components for the GTF™ engine family. This facility utilizes advanced wall-to-wall closed-door machining techniques and actively incorporates cutting-edge technology and automation throughout its manufacturing processes.

Spanning 20,500 square meters, the facility specializes in producing hybrid metallic fan blades and intricate turbine components. Established as a joint venture between Pratt & Whitney and Hanwha Aerospace Co., Ltd., it stands as the second Pratt & Whitney facility globally dedicated to fan blade and HPT disk production. This strategic location plays a pivotal role in meeting customer demands not only in the Asia Pacific region but also worldwide.
