Ryanair, known as Europe’s leading airline, proudly announced today (February 6th) that it has achieved an ‘A-‘ rating for its efforts in climate protection, according to the CDP, an international organization focused on environmental disclosure.
In 2023, Ryanair made significant strides in its commitment to reducing carbon emissions. The airline not only received new B737-8200 “Gamechanger” aircraft, which boast 4% more seats and emit 16% less CO2, but also collaborated with fuel partners to increase the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) across Europe. Furthermore, with the recent order of 300 Boeing MAX-10 aircraft, which offer 21% more seats and emit 20% less CO2, Ryanair has set ambitious environmental targets aiming for 50 grams of CO2 per passenger per kilometer by 2031. Additionally, Ryanair continues to support research in aviation decarbonization through the Ryanair Sustainable Aviation Research Centre at Trinity College Dublin.
Ryanair’s Director of Sustainability, Thomas Fowler, said:
“We are delighted to be awarded an ‘A-’ rating by CDP. This rating reflects Ryanair’s industry leading CO2 emission intensity and our ambitious emission reduction strategy.”
