The locals of Michigan and people all over the lake depend on the S.S. Badger to travel. As car ferry is not in services for the remaining part of the season, it‘s creating a huge effect on Ludington tourism.
Kati Gonzales, general manager of Best Western in Ludington, says that the impact happened right away. The phone calls started pouring in instantly, she said.
The closing of the S.S. Badger stopped the plans of the locals traveling to Ludington and staying there overnight.
By now, Gonzales has seen drop on people visiting the place. Gonzales said that during their hub, they needed a place to stay; whether they were coming here at night just to avail the badger or they were
traveling some other place didn’t make any sense.
She said that from May to October, they depend on the carferry quite seriously.
And out here in Ludington one can notice how tourism is busy the tourism in this region, and with no S.S. Badger, it’s making a trip lot longer.
Matthew Mazur, a tourists, said that he doesn’t know if he will be able to succeed in making the trip at this moment, driving around is tougher and it’s thrilling to think about doing the ferry all over in the S.S. Badger.
