Saga, the foremost specialist provider of services and products catering to individuals aged 50 and above in the UK, has unveiled plans to expand its river cruise portfolio with the introduction of a new vessel named Spirit of the Moselle. Set to join the fleet in July 2025, this addition underscores Saga’s commitment to delivering exceptional experiences to its guests, while also reflecting the company’s confidence in the enduring popularity of river cruises.

Mirroring the design ethos of its sibling ships, Spirit of the Rhine, launched in 2021, and Spirit of the Danube, introduced in 2022, Spirit of the Moselle will epitomize Saga’s boutique approach to cruising across both rivers and oceans. With a focus on luxury, this new addition will provide customers with an unparalleled cruise experience along Europe’s renowned river networks.

Commenting on the news, Director of River Product, Sergej Tocili said: “We’ve reached another great milestone in our river cruise collection. Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube have proven to be a great success with our guests, and I expect Spirit of Moselle will continue the same high quality river cruising while allowing us to explore a wider range of rivers”.

Accommodating up to 182 guests, Spirit of the Moselle will boast 95 cabins, with 73 featuring French Balconies, echoing the design principles of her sister ships and prioritizing bright, spacious interiors.

With expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, the ship will be suffused with natural light, particularly in communal areas like the lounge and bar, which are poised to become focal points for social interaction. The panoramic restaurant will offer buffet breakfasts and waiter-served lunches and dinners, while a more intimate dining venue at the ship’s rear will cater to special occasions. Additionally, the sun deck will feature loungers and seating, perfect for enjoying the picturesque scenery, complemented by a lower sun terrace for when the main deck is not accessible.

Commencing its inaugural season in July 2025, Spirit of the Moselle will also offer Christmas and New Year cruises. Primarily traversing the Main, highlights of its itineraries will encompass destinations such as Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Bamberg, and the UNESCO-protected Rhine Gorge.

Saga Cruise CEO Nigel Blanks added: “The team and I are thrilled to see this exciting next step in our growing river cruise offering. I’m looking forward to welcoming guests onboard for the first time in 2025 to enjoy the levels of service, value and exceptional experiences our guests have come to expect from Saga”

The ship’s construction commenced officially in January, marked by the traditional keel laying ceremony held at the Vahali shipyard in Serbia. Following tradition, a penny was placed to become an integral part of the first section of the hull, symbolizing good fortune and ensuring safe passage for the vessel and its passengers.
