San Antonio International Airport’s eighth nonstop international route takes off

San Antonio International Airport (SAT) unveiled its eighth nonstop international route to Torreon, Mexico (TRC) on October 11, 2023. On June 1, 2024, Viva Aerobus, a Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier, will start operating flights from SAT to its sixth Mexican city. Only two American cities will have nonstop service to TRC, and one of them is SAT.
Additionally, Viva Aerobus revealed that it would expand its well-liked nonstop service from SAT to Leon/Guanajuato (BJX) once more.
Jesus H. Saenz, Jr., Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System stated that the
inclusion of Torreon is a strategic move catering to both business and leisure travelers. Now travelers can enjoy an affordable fare for a trip from San Antonio to Torreon, with the journey taking less than two hours.He says, “Until now, travelers would drive nearly nine hours or take a connecting flight, resulting in 5-6 hours of travel. This new service helps to connect people involved in silver refining, automotive parts and electronics industries to Comarca Lagunera – known as the ‘region of lagoons.’ It’s also a popular destination for many San Antonians with friends and family there”.
Here’s what you need to know about the new nonstop service from SAT to TRC offered by Viva Aerobus:
- Aircraft Details: Viva Aerobus will operate A320 aircraft with 186 seats.
- Flight timings: Flights will run on Tuesdays and Saturdays.Departure and Arrival (SAT to TRC): Depart SAT at 12:20 p.m.; Arrive at TRC at 1:00 p.m.
- Departure and Arrival (TRC to SAT): Depart TRC at 2:00 p.m.; Arrive at SAT at 4:40p.m.
- Nonstop Routes: Viva Aerobus also offers nonstop service from SAT to Monterrey(MTY), Mexico City (MEX), and Queretaro (QRO).
- The service to Leon/Guanajuato (BJX) will increase from 3x to 4x weekly in June, following a rise to 3x in March.
- Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus said that this is a thrilling day for Viva Aerobus as it continues to grow its low-cost, nonstop services in the Alamo City. He expressed, “A few days ago, we announced new flights from San Antonio to Queretaro and, today, we are adding a new route to Torreon, Coahuila. This new route will contribute on more trade, leisure, cultural and educational exchange between Torreon and San Antonio.”
- According to Jesus Saenz, more travelers will now enjoy an authentic and enhanced travel experience flying in and out of SAT. The airport continues to make significant progress in expanding its nonstop flight options
- Torreon marks SAT’s 44th nonstop destination. The airport’s other seven international routes include Queretaro, Guadalajara, Leon/Guanajuato, Mexico City, Monterrey, Cancun, and Frankfurt, Germany.
