Sanya 5th Hainan Film Fest boosts popularity, with events like this driving hotel occupancies to new highs in Damao Yuanyang Eco Village.

The 5th Hainan International Film Festival recently wrapped up in Sanya, Hainan, drawing a diverse array of international guests and visitors. This event significantly boosted Sanya’s profile, contributing to its ongoing rise in popularity.

At the Damao Yuanyang Eco Village, hotel occupancy soared. “In November, our hotel’s occupancy was at 90%, and this surged to an average of 96.8% from December 1st to 18th, thanks to several major events like the Hainan International Film Festival. During weekends, we were nearly at full capacity,” noted Cai Liwei, the marketing and sales director of InterContinental Sanya Haitang Bay Resort.

Sanya’s recent focus on diverse business models incorporating culture, ecology, heritage, and rural development has been noteworthy. The city has introduced an array of tourism offerings, including culinary delights, wedding services, ecological tours, rural excursions, wellness retreats, educational experiences, and sports activities. These initiatives have revitalized Sanya’s cultural and tourism sectors. In 2023, the city’s tourism and accommodation sector is expected to host over 25 million overnight visitors, generating an estimated revenue of 89.34 billion yuan. This represents a 7.48% and 47.83% increase over 2019 figures, respectively.

Damao Yuanyang Eco Village, a hotspot for internet users, is a prime example of local success. The village offers jungle treks, RV camping, cycling routes, and fruit picking, among other activities. Its focus on blending tourism with agriculture, education, and sports has not only enhanced its rural tourism brand but also significantly improved the livelihoods of local farmers.

The Publicity Department of Sanya Municipal Party Committee revealed that Sanya aims to further develop its tourism sector. The focus will be on fashionable consumer experiences, cruise and yacht services, cultural relics, digital culture, and more. This strategy, underlining the synergy of tourism and various industries, is part of Sanya’s broader goal to establish itself as a high-standard, high-quality international tourist destination.
