Sarawak will be Malaysia’s favourite destination at the MATTA fair which will be happening from 9th – 10th April 2022 at World Trade Centre (WTC), Kuala Lumpur as announced by the press conference today.

Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor said that Sarawak’s participation in MATTA Fair is a good step forward to boost domestic tourism in Malaysia.

She said as domestic tourism continues to drive tourism recovery in 2022, they are very optimistic about increasing domestic visitor arrivals.

Sarawak’s domestic visitor arrivals in Jan 2022 showed a 566.82% increase as compared to Jan 2021 which gave us more confidence on this recovery path.

She added that STB’s homegrown intra-state campaigns Sia Sitok Sarawak (SSS) and Sia Sitok Sarawak Accommodation (SSSA) created to revive domestic travelling in 2020 received a positive response with 1,797 tours packages booked for the first two SSS campaign rollouts, while 8,351 rooms had been booked for the first SSSA campaign rollout.

Sia Sitok Sarawak was expanded earlier in 2022 to Sia Sitok Sarawak PLUS, an interstate travel campaign in collaboration with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to capture the West Malaysian and Sabahan markets.

This year, together with our tourism industry players, they are going all out to promote Sarawak as a prime eco-tourism destination. With air connectivity being one of the main keys to drive visitors into Sarawak, they will focus on increasing our direct airline connectivity to and from Sarawak.

Aside from that, they will also go beyond leisure travel where we will be focusing on medical and educational tourism which is in line with our Sarawak’s 15-year Tourism Master Plan, she added.

STB’s 21 booths will showcase Sarawak’s attractive Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festivals (CANFF) offerings ranging from leisure activities to adrenaline pumping tour packages such as visiting traditional longhouses, birding, frogging to diving, kayaking and mountain climbing.

Visitors to the booth can stand a chance to receive souvenirs giveaway items such as a Penan clutch bag, authentic handwoven rattan pepper baskets or bead garlands by participating in the games.

Besides that, there will also be a distribution of Sarawak’s local delicacies such as Bubur Pedas and Kek Lapis Sarawak.

Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia and home to one of the largest pristine rainforests in the world with 28 ethnic groups living harmoniously against a backdrop of age-old heritage and elements of modernity with a plethora of Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festival.

Currently, visitors from West Malaysia can take direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Langkawi, Kota Bahru to Kuching, while they can direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Penang to Sibu and take direct flights from Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru to Miri.
