At the Fvw TravelTalk Kongress 2025, the Sarawak Tourism Board made a remarkable impact on global travel industry experts by delivering an immersive experience and an insightful presentation on responsible tourism. The board’s commitment to sustainable travel practices was evident as they showcased innovative solutions and initiatives aimed at fostering eco-conscious tourism. By combining captivating visuals with detailed discussions on how Sarawak is preserving its natural beauty while promoting responsible travel, the board not only demonstrated its leadership in the field but also inspired other tourism bodies to follow suit. This event marked a significant step in positioning Sarawak as a key destination for responsible tourism, aligning with the growing global demand for travel that prioritizes environmental and cultural sustainability.

The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) had a successful presence at the fvw TravelTalk Kongress 2025, one of Germany’s premier travel industry events, held in Leipzig on September 16-17, 2025.

In line with its strategy to increase its presence in the European market, STB leveraged the event to promote Sarawak as a premier destination for cultural experiences, adventure, and sustainability.

STB’s participation featured a prominent exhibition booth, a keynote speech on responsible tourism, and a captivating video showcasing the region’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage to a global audience of travel professionals.

During the event, STB engaged with over 350 travel industry professionals from across Europe, with a special emphasis on the German-speaking market. Through a series of one-on-one meetings, networking opportunities, and media engagements, the board strengthened existing trade relationships, generated new media exposure, and reinforced Sarawak’s standing as a destination offering authentic, sustainable, and immersive travel experiences.

Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board, commented:
“Europe is a key growth market for us, and fvw TravelTalk provided the ideal platform to showcase Sarawak’s unique blend of culture, nature, and adventure. By engaging directly with leading tour operators, travel agents, and media, we built meaningful new connections and raised awareness of Sarawak’s appeal as a must-visit destination for eco-conscious and experience-driven travellers.”

STB’s involvement in fvw TravelTalk is a key element of its broader plan to elevate Sarawak’s global presence. In addition to targeting the German market, the organization has been intensifying its international outreach through various high-profile events and initiatives. Just earlier this month, STB made a notable appearance at CelebrASIA 2025, held at London’s Battersea Power Station, a vibrant three-day festival celebrating Southeast Asian food, culture, and community. Attendees at the Sarawak booth participated in interactive craft workshops, enjoyed live performances, and gained insights into the state’s eco-tourism, outdoor adventures, and rich cultural offerings. The Sarawak Craft Council also displayed and sold traditional crafts, featuring detailed beadwork and handwoven baskets.

Located on Borneo Island, Sarawak is a destination that blends thrilling jungle expeditions, immersive cultural experiences, and awe-inspiring wildlife encounters. Referred to as the “Land of the Hornbills,” Sarawak is celebrated for its diverse cultures, time-honored traditions, and lush rainforest ecosystems. Notable attractions include Gunung Mulu National Park, known for its enormous caves and UNESCO World Heritage status; the Niah Caves, which hold evidence of 65,000 years of human habitation; and Bako National Park, home to the iconic proboscis monkeys that thrive in its pristine jungles.

For those seeking sustainable travel experiences, Sarawak provides meaningful opportunities to connect with local culture while making a positive impact. Visitors can participate in guided jungle treks, stay with indigenous communities, volunteer in conservation efforts, or take part in traditional craft workshops, all of which foster deeper connections with the people and natural beauty of Sarawak.

At the Fvw TravelTalk Kongress 2025, the Sarawak Tourism Board impressed global travel experts with an immersive experience and a powerful presentation on responsible tourism. Highlighting their commitment to sustainability, the board showcased initiatives aimed at preserving Sarawak’s natural beauty while promoting eco-conscious travel. This event reinforced Sarawak’s position as a leading destination for responsible tourism.

The Sarawak Delta Geopark (SDGp), spanning 3,112 square kilometers, is a rich area of cultural and environmental diversity. It is home to various Indigenous groups, including the Iban, Bidayuh, and Malays, who live in a landscape that blends urban, agricultural, natural forest, and conservation zones. In June 2022, SDGp was officially recognized as a national geopark by the National Geopark Committee. The capital city, Kuching, located within the Sarawak Delta, holds a deep historical significance. It was the administrative center during the Brunei Sultanate, the White Rajah period, and British colonial rule before Sarawak joined Malaysia in 1963. The city’s rich heritage is reflected in landmarks like the Old Court House, the Astana, and Fort Margherita, which continue to tell the stories of Sarawak’s past, passed down through generations.
