Sungrow, a leading provider of PV inverters and energy storage systems, has entered into a strategic partnership with Larsen & Toubro to supply 165MW of PV inverters and 160MW/760MWh of energy storage systems for AMAALA, an exclusive destination in Saudi Arabia. This partnership is in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, signifying a crucial step in sustainable energy development. The project, managed by EDF Group, a French utility leader in low-carbon electricity, and Masdar, under the ownership of Red Sea Global, aims to be a flagship in sustainable energy.
Set to complete in 2027, AMAALA will become the world’s second-largest off-grid energy storage facility, providing continuous, zero-emission green power. This development will not only help Saudi Arabia progress towards carbon neutrality but also stimulate the local economy by creating over 50,000 jobs and contributing more than 11 billion riyals to the GDP. Spanning 4,155 square kilometers along the Red Sea, AMAALA will include 29 hotels, 3,900 rooms, and 1,200 luxury residences, alongside premium retail, dining, and leisure outlets.

As part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the Belt and Road initiative, the AMAALA project will also support local sustainability efforts by powering desalination and wastewater treatment facilities with Sungrow’s solar-plus-storage technology. This includes constructing the world’s largest 10MW demonstration platform and employing advanced simulation technologies to ensure system reliability and stability.
The project is expected to produce 410 million kilowatt-hours annually, potentially reducing carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 500,000 tons.
Mr. T Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at L&T, remarked, “Following our successful collaboration on the Neom New City project, we are excited to partner with Sungrow once again for the AMAALA destination. With Sungrow’s cutting-edge energy storage solutions and the groundbreaking 10MW demonstration platform, we anticipate delivering exceptional quality and timely execution, ensuring 100% sustainable water usage within the destination. This partnership represents a significant stride towards net-zero emissions, marking a milestone in reducing fossil fuel dependency for both China and Saudi Arabia.”
