While the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to grow and develop its tourism sector, government officials in the country have been going out and creating relationships with key international destinations.

The most recent is Tunisia, a North African country around eight hours from the Kingdom through a connecting flight. KSA’s Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Kateeb met the Tunisian Minister of Tourism Habib Ammar earlier this week.

During their meeting, the pair addressed bilateral relationships between the countries, especially in the field of tourism. The meeting was also attended by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia, Dr Abdulaziz Bin Ali Al-Saqr.

Earlier this same week, Al-Khateeb also met with the Greek Minister of Tourism Harry Theoharis, who both signed an agreement for cooperation across coastal and marine tourism. The agreement allows for the exchanging of knowledge and best practices across tourism, and ways in which to support marine tourism in both countries.

Al-Khateeb said: “This is a positive step taken by Saudi Arabia and Greece, and it is one of the fruits of international cooperation that will achieve a more sustainable future for tourism and lead to addressing the repercussions of the pandemic on the global tourism sector.”

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been supercharging its leisure tourism market in recent years, with the intention of turning tourism into a key pillar of the national economy by 2030.

US$810 billion is the estimate for how much money Saudi Arabia will invest into its tourism sector over the next decade according to the Middle East and North Africa Leisure and Attractions Council (MENALAC), which published a report looking into the extent of Saudi’s growing leisure and entertainment tourism sector.
