An update on the hostess city’s attempts to balance tourism with residents’ quality of life.

Savannah’s Downtown Neighborhood Association met with City Manager Jay Melder Tuesday night to discuss issues residents brought up about tourism throughout the city.

In March of last year, residents raised concerns about the growth of tourism in residential areas, and how it affects their day-to-day activities.

Tuesday, the association tells WTOC they sat down with the City to get the answers they need.

“The meeting tonight is for the city manager to let us know exactly what the city proposes to do to reduce that and to make a better balance in the quality of life between residents and the tourism industry which is important…” said David McDonald, President, Savannah Downtown Neighborhood Association.

The association says they are happy about the progress they’ve seen since the last meeting and they are working with the city to achieve the balance they’ve been hoping for.
