Published on December 8, 2025

Scotland has rejuvenated its image in the world tourism map, thanks to the Good Hotel Guide’s prestigious Cesar Awards, usually referred to as the Oscars of hotel-keeping, which highlight the country’s warmth and character in hospitality. Each one of the award-winning hotels has been made even more attractive with the start of winter travel season as the travelers across the country reported their strong preferences for Scotland’s nature and local friendliness this year.

Three Scottish Hotels Claim Coveted Cesar Awards

This year’s list features three Cesar winners north of the border, complemented by several Editor’s Choice accolades spanning categories from pubs with rooms to seaside escapes. With the 2025 Guide now live, each award signals excellence in service, setting, dining and authentic local experience.

Meikleour Arms, Perthshire: Best in Scotland & Best Pub with Rooms

The Meikleour Arms in Perthshire secured the Cesar for Best in Scotland, as well as Editor’s Choice for Pubs with Rooms, recognised for its blend of rustic beauty and refined French-influenced design.

This Georgian coaching inn, owned by Sam Mercer Nairne and his Bordeaux-born wife Claire, features simple-chic bedrooms filled with French antiques and Toile de Jouy prints. Guests reportedly described its charm as something that could not be overstated, enjoying a field-to-plate menu celebrating both Scotland and France, fish and chips appearing alongside classics such as moules frites, duck cassoulet and crème brûlée. B&B doubles from 115 pound.

Cavens, Dumfries-shire: Best Country-House Hotel

In the gentle countryside of Dumfries-shire, Cavens emerged as the Cesar and Editor’s Choice favourite for Country-House Hotel.

Set within 10 acres near the Solway coast, the Georgian mansion is run by Angus Fordyce, who personally greets guests with tea and cake on arrival. Readers of the Guide described the atmosphere as a home from home, only grander, praising Angus’s locally sourced dinners and breakfasts made with eggs from the property’s own hens. Prestonfield House, Edinburgh: Best City Hotel

Edinburgh’s opulent Prestonfield House collected the Editor’s Choice award for Best City Hotel, cementing its status as one of the capital’s most theatrical places to stay.

Just minutes from the Old Town, this 17th-century mansion dazzles with peacocks in the grounds, lavish interiors filled with tapestries, paintings and antiques, and indulgent bedrooms with views of Arthur’s Seat. The in-house Rhubarb restaurant is celebrated for its thyme-glazed chicken and imaginative vegetarian dishes. B&B doubles from 375 pound.

Eddrachilles Hotel, Sutherland: Best for Travelling with Dogs

Along the remote and dramatic North Coast 500 route, the Eddrachilles Hotel in Scourie was named the Editor’s Choice winner for Best Hotels for Dogs.

Guests consistently praised the friendliness and professionalism of Fiona and Richard Trevor’s team, noting that staff were delightful and cheerful. Creative menus, a 15 pound dog-welcome pack and detailed walking maps make it a hit with travellers exploring Scotland with their canine companions.

Scarista House, Isle of Harris: Best Seaside Hotel

On the wild fringes of the Outer Hebrides, Scarista House claimed Best Seaside Hotel in the Editor’s Choice awards.

Its Georgian manse looks over white-sand beaches, rolling dunes and Harris’s rugged mountains, offering a peaceful refuge after days spent surfing, hiking or visiting Harris Tweed weavers. The owners described the house as not being a stately home but instead a warm and welcoming retreat, complete with fireside tea and a set-price dinner that encourages guests to slow down and linger.
B&B doubles from 315 pound (2–3 nights), dogs welcome; reopens 5 April.

Gordon’s, Angus – Best Restaurant with Rooms

In Inverkeilor, Gordon’s was awarded both the Cesar and Editor’s Choice for Best Restaurant with Rooms, celebrating its 40-year legacy of hospitality.

Maria Watson and her son Garry continue the work of the late Gordon Watson, delivering what readers called wonderfully creative cooking. The tasting menu, frequently described as divine, attracts food-focused travellers seeking an intimate culinary escape.
B&B doubles from 205 pound; tasting menu 100 pound.

Grianaig Guest House, South Uist: Best B&B

On South Uist, Grianaig Guest House earned Best B&B, distinguished by its contemporary comfort and remote island charm.

Hospitality veterans Chris Brooks and Carla Regler transformed their single-storey property beside Askernish Golf Course into a haven with four sleek bedrooms, an honesty bar and whisky collection. Guests particularly appreciated Chris’s nightly three-course dinners, featuring homemade bread with creative dips and dishes such as pan-roasted salmon with rocket, chorizo and olive dressing.

A Hot Reflection on Scotland’s Hospitality

The heroes of the Good Hotel Guide’s Cesar Awards are the ones who bring Scotland’s hospitality to light, the ones who will be moving along the entire coast and islands, down to the cities and top restaurants. Visitors have been saying that these places feel made by people who truly care for their guests, and that is why these awards are so much in tune with that feeling. For those who are scheduling their next trip, the newly recognized stars of Scotland provide accommodations that are both memorable and remarkably intimate.
