The Scottish Government has kept a multi-million fund for supporting tourism in the midst of fears that political upheaval could discourage visitors.
Citing an ‘uncertain time’ for the country, tourism secretary Fiona Hyslop pledged to invest £1m for improving forest tourism across southern Scotland by 2021 to establish the region as an adventure tourism destination and also promote sustainable tourism.
Smaller-scale interventions include the setting up free public Wi-Fi system at ten sites across the North Coast 500 route and the re-establishment of a footbridge for safe access to Lossiemouth East Beach.
Hyslop said, “We are committed to working with the sector to support them through this uncertain time and ensure that they can continue to offer high-quality experiences for visitors while minimizing the impact on the environment and the lives of those who live here all year round.”
Channel 4 and VisitScotland have previously teamed up for inviting viewers to hit the road for growing the sector.
