Second daily direct flight from London to Mumbai announced by Virgin Atlantic for October 2024

Virgin Atlantic, the UK-based airline, initiated a new daily service from London to Bengaluru starting April 1. Additionally, it announced the launch of a second daily direct flight from London Heathrow to Mumbai set to commence in October 2024, marking its fifth daily operation to India.

A Times of India article highlighted that by 2025, Virgin Atlantic aims to offer over one million seats to India, reflecting a 350% increase in capacity since 2019. This expansion underscores India’s critical role in the airline’s strategic market positioning, making it the most significant area of growth for the airline outside the United States.

“Alongside customer flying, the increase is also a huge boost for cargo operations with additional capacity to support the movement of goods from the fashion, pharmaceuticals, and tech sectors. With five daily services, Virgin Atlantic Cargo will offer over 40 million kg of space to and from India, a 336% increase in capacity versus 2019,” the airline said as quoted by Times of India.

For these new flights, Virgin Atlantic will deploy its state-of-the-art 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, equipped with a variety of cabin choices including Upper-Class, Premium, and Economy Delight, Classic, and Light. These flights will also feature the airline’s celebrated Upper-Class social space.

These services will enhance long-haul travel experiences for passengers connecting through London Heathrow, offering seamless connections with Virgin Atlantic and its transatlantic joint venture partner Delta Air Lines to various North American cities such as Seattle, San Francisco, and New York JFK.

Moreover, Virgin Atlantic has formed a strategic partnership with IndiGo, India’s largest airline, further solidifying its commitment to providing direct services to key Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
