During the Chinese Spring Festival, China experiences “Chunyun,” characterized by one of the world’s most significant migrations within a short span. Shanghai’s airports saw a historic surge in traffic during this period, with 395,000 passengers passing through in a single day.

From February 6 to February 17, 2024, the peak period of the Chinese Spring Festival travel rush saw a substantial influx of travelers at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport. A total of 4.37 million passengers were accommodated, marking an 80.3% increase compared to the previous year. Flight movements at both airports totaled 27,000, up 38.4% year-on-year, with 18,000 at Pudong and 9,000 at Hongqiao.

February 15, the 6th day of the Chinese New Year holiday, recorded the highest inbound and outbound passenger traffic, reaching 395,000 passengers. Among them, 243,000 passengers were accommodated at Pudong and 152,000 at Hongqiao.

These figures represent the highest records for the Chinese Spring Festival travel rush in recent years, with Hongqiao International Airport also witnessing its highest single-day passenger volume since its establishment.
