Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa has been honored with the inaugural certification from Green Globe, underscoring its unwavering dedication to sustainable tourism. This recognition highlights the resort’s commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and sustainable operational practices, as evaluated by Green Globe, a leading certification company renowned for its stringent standards.

This significant achievement not only solidifies the resort’s position as a leader in sustainable tourism in the Maldives but also marks a milestone as the first Marriott International property in the region to receive such esteemed recognition.

With an impressive compliance score of 86%, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa excelled in sustainability across four major pillars, assessed through over 380 indicators. These pillars encompass Sustainable Management, Social and Economic Responsibility, Cultural Heritage Preservation, and Environmental Conservation.

”As travelers increasingly seek eco-conscious and sustainable destinations, it is essential for us to prioritize sustainability. This accomplishment reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team at Sheraton Maldives,” said Mohamed El Aghoury, General Manager of Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. “We are proud to be part of an organization that values sustainability and strives to make a positive impact on the world.”

Located on the picturesque island of Furanafushi in North Male Atoll, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is committed to preserving its natural surroundings. Spearheaded by Director of Engineering, Hassan Nafiu, the resort team actively engages and educates guests on environmental conservation. Partnering with Reefscapers on the ‘Adopt A Coral’ program, the resort has planted over 567 coral frames and 17 massive coral pyramid structures, enhancing reef habitats and attracting diverse marine life.

To minimize energy consumption, the resort employs an INNCOMM system to regulate air conditioning based on room occupancy. Additionally, a cutting-edge Biogas plant is soon to be implemented as part of the waste management system, converting organic kitchen waste into biogas for cooking, showcasing innovative sustainability practices.

Addressing plastic waste, the resort operates an onsite water bottling plant using reverse osmosis technology, eliminating the need for plastic bottles by providing purified water in reusable glass containers, saving 375,000 bottles annually.

The resort’s commitment to sustainability extends to its Chef’s Garden and Furana Organic, a thriving green oasis producing organic vegetables, reducing the carbon footprint. Engaging with the local community, the resort supports K’Huraa school and hosts the Maldivian Journey, a weekly celebration of local culture.

Aligned with Marriott International’s ‘Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction’ platform, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa invites guests to join in responsible travel, promising an unforgettable experience that not only indulges the senses but also contributes to a greener planet and sustainable communities.
