The renovation of a former 19th century railway station has taken a step forward after plans were lodged by Shropshire Council.
The planning application proposes to refurbish the Grade II-listed Oswestry Station, known as the Cambrian Railways building.
The submission came after the estimated £900,000 project was awarded about £630,000 of government funding earlier this year.
The Oswald Road site was damaged by a storm in 2022 and has been described as being in a “serious state of decay”.
The work would include replacing the existing asbestos roof tiles and repairing the building’s ornate stonework.
In documents filed with the application, Shropshire Council’s property management firm Property Services Group said the roof needed significant repairs and restoration.
Shropshire Council voted in January to provide £270,000 in match funding for the project.
In October, the government announced it would fund the reopening of the rail line between Oswestry and Gobowen using cash recovered from the scrapped HS2 leg to Manchester.
Oswestry Station was first opened in the 1860s but was closed to passengers in 1966 when rail services were withdrawn.
