In a significant development for North American rail travel, Siemens Mobility’s Sacramento factory has been at the forefront of producing Venture cars, designed for high-speed operations of up to 200 km/h. These cars, known for their stainless steel construction, represent a leap forward in travel efficiency and comfort.

In 2019, Caltrans placed an order for 7 trains, comprising a total of 49 cars, at a cost of $132 million, signaling a strong commitment to upgrading rail services. Although initial test operations were slated for 2020, they only got underway in December 2023, with expectations set for the full fleet to be operational by the end of 2025.

Currently, for the return direction, travel configurations include a cab car converted from an EMD F40PH locomotive, featuring a baggage compartment. Plans are underway to replace this with a dedicated cab car, further modernizing the fleet.

The Venture cars’ production underscores a broader initiative to bolster the North American rail infrastructure. With the total number of Venture cars ordered by carriers in the US and Canada surpassing 900 units, Siemens Mobility is expanding its manufacturing capabilities by establishing a second facility in the US. This expansion not only enhances the rail travel experience but also underscores the growing demand for high-speed rail solutions in North America.
