February 25th marked a significant milestone for Silversea as its second Nova-class vessel, Silver Ray, underwent its float out ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. This ceremony signifies the ship’s progression into the final phases of construction. After approximately 15 months since the initial steel cutting, Silver Ray is nearing completion and is set to make its debut in the Mediterranean in June, adding to Silversea’s fleet expansion of six vessels in just three years.

Following the meticulous cleaning of Silver Ray’s hull by Meyer Werft’s skilled craftsmen, approximately 100,000 cubic meters of water were gradually introduced into the dock over a four-hour period. Two tugboats then maneuvered the 728-guest ship from the expansive construction hall to the adjacent harbor basin, where further work on the vessel will continue during the docking out phase. The team proceeded to install the ship’s funnel and radar masts. In accordance with shipbuilding customs, Captain Alessandro Zanello, the Master of Silver Ray, ceremoniously welded a newly minted commemorative coin to a wall on the pool deck as a symbol of good fortune.

“With the float out of Silver Ray, excitement is building for the launch of the second ship in our pioneering Nova-class,” said Barbara Muckermann, President of Silversea. “We received such incredibly strong feedback on Silver Nova from guests, travel advisors, and members of the press following her launch in August 2023. Sustaining the wave of innovation that is driving our success, the launch of Silver Ray will strengthen Royal Caribbean Group’s unwavering commitment to delivering a lifetime of vacations for guests, with its industry-leading global brands.”

“Reaching the major milestone of the float out, we now approach the completion of Silver Ray. The Meyer team is now working on getting this beautiful ship ready for her upcoming sea trials,” said Thorsten Kroes, Project Manager at Meyer Werft.

Silversea’s Nova-class ships exemplify Royal Caribbean Group’s dedication to providing the world’s premier vacation experiences responsibly. Silver Nova and Silver Ray set new standards in energy efficiency, surpassing international requirements by 40%. Onboard, guests indulge in luxurious amenities including new venues, suite options, Otium wellness experiences, and enhancements to the S.A.L.T. culinary program, featuring the S.A.L.T. Chef’s Table. Both ships boast innovative designs, with extensive exterior glass offering immersive connections to the surroundings.

Silver Ray is poised for a distinctive journey down the Ems River, covering approximately 32 kilometers (20 miles) to the North Sea for sea trials. Scheduled for a June 2024 debut, she will inaugurate her Mediterranean season before crossing the Atlantic in December.
