Skiathos Airport debuts nomination for Europe’s top Scenic Airports Award

The renovated and refurbished Alexandros Papadiamantis Skiathos has been nominated for the position of Europe’s most Scenic Airports Award 2020 for the very first time. PrivateFly, a recognized private jet booking platform recently organized an annual poll to select the most scenic airport. Travellers across the globe were invited to be a part of the selection process and asked to nominate the scenic airport of their choice.

The nominations of the most scenic airports were made from six different regions around the world including Europe, America, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Middle East. The 2020 poll nominated a total of 74 airports. The factors influencing the nominations were the location of the airport, the airstrip’s approach towards scenic beauty, cityscapes, islands, mountains or coasts. Existing results from previous posts have also been taken into consideration as a part of the voting process. All voters have been instructed to pick their favourite scenic airport from each different region respectively.

This marks the debut of Skiathos Airport’s nomination under Europe’s Most Scenic Airport category. Skiathos features one of the most magnificent airstrips in the world, a point of reference designed especially for the international plane spotting community and has been titled as “Greece’s own Saint Martin”.

The Skiathos Airport successfully completed its renovation. The airport has been expanded by 2,185 square meters and the existing terminal has been properly renovated. A new fire station has been constructed and the aircraft parking area has been reconfigured. The check-in counters have been increased by 10% and the departure gates from 3 to 5 has been increased by 70%. A brand new modern baggage handling system has been installed and the baggage reclaim belts have been doubled by number. The existing forecourt has been redeveloped alongside the construction of a new guardhouse.

The ongoing voting process will close on the 15^th of March 2020 based on which the winner will be selected.
