In an effort to bolster Greece tourism, easyJet, one of the largest low-cost airlines in Europe, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Municipality of Skiathos. The partnership seeks to promote the island as a tourist destination for European travellers which, in turn, will elevate the island’s international visibility. This partnership is marked with a significant advertising campaign of €100,000 of which the Municipality will invest €50,000, the largest the island has ever contributed to similar promotional efforts.
The campaign’s objective is clear: to position Skiathos as a year-round destination by extending its tourism season, which will significantly benefit Greece tourism. Through easyJet’s expansive European network, the island will gain greater access to travellers from key markets, including the United Kingdom, Italy and Switzerland. The airline’s involvement is expected to play a pivotal role in attracting a larger number of tourists, especially as the 2025 season marks a significant step forward for the island’s tourism calendar.
Beginning April 30, 2025 with service set to continue until November 2. This will mark the first time the island has had such an extensive tourism season, and the development is forecasted to greatly increase the region’s tourism and economic activity. The prolonged period of service is useful for the island’s economy and local businesses that heavily rely on tourist traffic. Year after year coupled with the dependable flow of tourists, these businesses will be able to sustain operations for the entire year.
easyJet has been instrumental in Skiathos’ tourism development since 2020 when the partnership first began. The collaboration was aimed at integrating Skiathos into easyJet’s extensive European network of destinations, further advancing Greece tourism. Initially, the partnership focused on the United Kingdom, Italy and Switzerland, three markets known for their strong demand for travel to Greece. With easyJet now flying to Skiathos from six European cities, including London-Gatwick, Bristol, Manchester, Milan, Naples and Basel, the island is poised to capture a significant share of the European travel market.
For 2025, over 96,000 seats will be available for tourists, reflecting a 35% increase compared to the previous year. This increase in seat availability is expected to make Skiathos even more accessible to both individual travellers and those booking through organized holiday packages. As one of the most popular Greek islands, known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters and vibrant culture, Skiathos will benefit greatly from the enhanced accessibility provided by this partnership with easyJet, further fueling Greece tourism.
The added air connectivity will likely bring a fresh wave of international travellers to the island, strengthening its position as a leading tourist destination in the Aegean region. Local businesses, from hotels and restaurants to tour operators and cultural sites, will feel the impact of the extended tourist season. The influx of tourists will create new employment opportunities and further fuel the island’s economic development, making this partnership a win-win for both Skiathos and easyJet, while enhancing Greece tourism on a broader scale.
