The tourism sector in Southern Vietnam has witnessed substantial growth in the first quarter of 2024, a result attributed to innovative product diversification and the implementation of various strategies to overcome industry hurdles.

The Department of Tourism in Ho Chi Minh City has highlighted that this vibrant city saw an influx of 1.38 million international and 8 million domestic tourists during this period, marking a 32% and 6.6% increase from the previous year, respectively. This surge in visitor numbers contributed to a significant rise in tourism-related income, reaching nearly 1.79 billion USD, a nearly 24% increase year-on-year.

Kien Giang Province, within the Mekong Delta, has also seen positive trends, thanks to the introduction of numerous tours emphasizing its ecological sites, beaches, and islands, drawing in over 2.7 million visitors, a more than 22% increase from the previous year. Dong Thap Province, recognized for its unique blend of agriculture-based, craft village, ecotourism, and cultural tourism products, welcomed 1.15 million tourists last quarter, generating revenue of approximately 480 billion VND.

Le Truong Hien Hoa, Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, indicated that the 20th Tourism Festival of Ho Chi Minh City, scheduled for April 4 to 7, is highly anticipated by tourists seeking to avail themselves of tours with special offers. The festival will feature 400 tour programs, along with a variety of accommodation, culinary, and health care services connected to tourism.

Saigontourist Travel Service Company and Vietnam Travel and Marketing Transports Joint Stock Company (Vietravel) are offering a wide array of domestic and international tour packages. These packages are designed to cater to various preferences, including visits to Phan Thiet, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phu Yen, Con Dao, Vung Tau, and the Mekong Delta, and include diverse experiences with flexible transportation options, aiming to boost demand for the upcoming summer tourism season.

Furthermore, Kien Giang’s tourism department plans to enhance its appeal by developing new tourism products, promoting international flight connectivity for easier tourist travel, and emphasizing environmentally friendly and community-based tourism practices. These efforts are directed towards fostering sustainable tourism development, signifying a broader impact on global travel by enriching the diversity and accessibility of travel experiences in Southern Vietnam.
