By now, Southwest Airlines, for Monday, has called off over 100 flights which were scheduled after prohibiting hundreds of additional trips over weekend in the middle of bad weather conditions at the Midway International Airport, Chicago.
As per FlightAware, a flight tracking service, Dallas-based Southwest has stopped over 101 flights as of 9:00 a.m. ET, or 2% of its strategic daily operations. Another 370 flights, or 8% of the planned operations of Southwest have been deferred. On Sunday, the airline had been compelled to call off around 293 flights and delay another 1,276 or more than a quarter of its total operations.
Dense fog was the main cause for Sunday’s cancellations. The condition that enclosed the airline company on Saturday night and stopped planes from landing, Southwest told CBS News.
Even though the airline had called off 56 flights on Sunday morning, numbers scaled as the zero-visibility continued. On Sunday, eighty-seven flights departing or arriving at Midway were called off, as yet another 193 went through delays, according to FlightAware.
On Sunday, Southwest executives informed the employees the airline had activated its disruption pod to focus on the recovery of Midway and inform airline crews about any possible dangers.
