Spain enlists 2.4 million tourism workers in January

As per data furnished by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of Spain, in January this year, Social Security associates connected to tourist happenings surged by 7.4 per cent, reaching 2,404,387 workers when compared to the equivalent period the year before.


Data showed that tourism workforces comprise 12 per cent of the total number of associates in all doings of the Spanish economy.

Considering the hotel sector, there are 98,954 associates, while tourist agencies and tourist operators taken into account, it reached 5,391. In the same vein, there was a surge in other areas of tourism undertakings, with 61,028 workers.


Besides, in the social security structure, the increase especially impacted paid workers, who signify 79.9 per cent of the total number of workers in the tourism sector. Hence, its development was 9.4 per cent paralleled to 0.2 per cent for self-employment, which takes into account the remaining 20.1 per cent.


The data says that in January this year, there was a growth in affiliates in independent communities such as Andalusia, the Canary Islands, the Community of Madrid, Catalonia and the Community of Valencia.
