SriLankan Airlines has initiated the global implementation of its SriLankan Direct Connect, a New Distribution Capability (NDC) agents booking portal. The rollout commences in India, offering travel agents direct access to the airline’s reservation system and various advantages. The NDC platform, supported by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), is a transformative program for airline distribution. By embracing this technology through SriLankan Direct Connect, the airline establishes a robust, direct retail and communication channel with agents, bypassing traditional Global Distribution Systems. This enables the provision of enhanced content, ancillary services, and personalized offers.
Richard Nuttall, Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, expressed excitement about being among the first airlines in South Asia to implement IATA’s NDC technology. SriLankan Direct Connect is hailed as an intuitive application that strengthens the direct distribution channel, providing added value to travel agents and enhancing the overall booking experience.
The launch of SriLankan Direct Connect is a significant achievement, making SriLankan Airlines eligible for IATA’s prestigious Airline Retailing Maturity Certification. According to Dimuthu Tennakoon, Head of Worldwide Sales & Distribution of SriLankan Airlines, the platform will expand the distribution network, optimize savings and efficiency, and revolutionize the airline’s business operations.
Agents registering for SriLankan Direct Connect gain access to various exclusive benefits, including private fares, guaranteed lowest fares, fare families, promotional fares, ancillary products, free date changes, and an incentive scheme for flown segments. Initially introduced in Sri Lanka in August 2023, the airline plans to gradually extend SriLankan Direct Connect across its network in the coming months after the initial launch in India.
