With this order, STARLUX will become the first Taiwanese airline to operate the next-generation A350F widebody freighter. In an era of climate change, the A350F has unbeatable efficiency in terms of fuel burn, CO2 emissions, and economics, offering significant energy-saving and carbon reduction benefits. It not only meets customer requirements for carbon reduction but also aligns with STARLUX’s ESG plan to achieve zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, the three new A330neos will strengthen our fleet advantage and provide greater flexibility for passenger operations.

“We love working with STARLUX Airlines in building and strengthening its fleet,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft. “Operating both the latest generation Airbus single aisle and widebody aircraft brings the airline enormous benefits. It significantly reduces fuel consumption and carbon emission and offers unrivalled levels of technical commonality, benefits in maintenance and training. The A350F, the only new generation large freighter, will fit seamlessly into this all-Airbus fleet and enable STARLUX Airlines to compete effectively with the leading players in key cargo markets.”

Taiwan’s STARLUX Airlines has confirmed the purchase of five A350F freighters and an additional three A330neo widebody planes. The purchase agreement was finalized during the Singapore Airshow by STARLUX Airlines’ Chairman KW Chang and Airbus Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer.

“STARLUX Airlines has continuously nurtured the cargo market since its inception, capitalising on the strategic advantages offered by Taiwan’s geographical location,” said STARLUX CEO Glenn Chai.

STARLUX Airlines, which currently flies an all-Airbus passenger fleet including the A350-900, A330neo, and A321neo models, plans to utilize the A350F for key global cargo routes through its cargo division, STARLUX Cargo.

The A350F, still under development, promises a payload capacity of up to 111 tonnes and a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 kilometers), outperforming existing freighters in cost efficiency. Powered by the latest Rolls-Royce Trent-XWB97 engines, it is designed to cut fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 40% compared to older models like the 747F and offers at least 20% more efficiency than its closest competitor.

With the largest main deck cargo door in its class and over 70% of its airframe made from advanced materials, the A350F boasts a lighter take-off weight and full compliance with upcoming ICAO CO₂ emissions standards set for 2027.

The expansion of STARLUX’s A330neo fleet from four to seven aircraft will further modernize its passenger services, providing a premium in-flight experience with a two-class cabin layout.

In the Asia-Pacific region, Airbus widebody aircraft remain highly sought after, with nearly 900 currently in service and another 190 on order. The A350 Family has attracted over 1,200 orders globally, including 50 for the A350F from nine leading cargo airlines, while the A330neo Family continues to expand its market presence with nearly 300 confirmed orders from 28 customers.
