In a recent progress, a ‘Statue of Peace’ of Swami Ramanujacharya carved out of marble was installed in Srinagar by Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister. Located in the Sonwar region of Srinagar, this amazing statue symbolizes peace in the Valley and also in India. The minister said that peace is once again coming back to new Jammu and Kashmir.

During the ritual, the minister said that Sri Ramanuja, the advocate of Vishishtadvaita was a heroic persona who always appreciated the formation of an unbiased society. This Statue of Peace will convey the blessings and the significance of Ramanujacharya for Kashmiris of all beliefs, and will take Kashmir forward on the course of peace and growth.

Shah also stated that by next year, Gujarat will have a statue of peace as well. Talking about Ramanuja, the minister said that the religious leader had an open mind, standing strongly against inequalities in society. His preaching is applicable even after thousand years.

Ramanuja or Ramanujacharya was one eminent Hindu theorist and a social reformer who is recognized for initiating the Bhakti Movement in India. He was born on April 25, 1077 CE in a Tamil Brahmin neighborhood in a tiny hamlet known as Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu during the Chola period.

His supporters adhered to the Vaishnava tradition and there are some important Vaishnava temples linked with Ramanuja’s practice. One of them is the Srirangam Ranganatha temple in Tamil Nadu.
