The government has emphasized that high airfares is one of the reasons for the slow revival of the tourist industry from the slump caused by the pandemic.

The main disagreement is that would-be passengers might consider twice in terms of boarding aircraft as ticket fare continue to be fairly pricey for almost half a year after the Supreme Court encourage an antitrust ruling against seven carriers of domestic flights.

Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia tourism minister said that the legal process had to be respected and adhered, mentioning that high fares of air tickets were one of the issues that was obstructing tourism recuperation, mainly in the domestic area.

Uno said that they will have to keep away from cartel practices. They must help the KPPU in stopping such practices. In setting airfares, unhealthy practices should be kept away from as this is what the minister said at the weekly press briefing on Monday, highlighting the Business Competition Supervisory Commission.

He said they want flights to be reasonably priced as well as competitive. A legal battle of many years came to an end in December 2022. It was between the KPPU and airlines. The Supreme Court took the decision in favor of the antitrust agency.
