Stockholm to Open Luxury Hotel at Arlanda Airport with Strawberry at the Helm

Published on November 22, 2024

Stockholm is set to host the largest hotel in the Nordic region with the opening of a new property at Arlanda Airport in early 2029. With 656 rooms, a state-of-the-art congress hall, multiple dining options, and bars, the new hotel will redefine airport hospitality. Swedavia Real Estate, the property owner, has entrusted the operation of this ambitious project to the well-known hotel group Strawberry after an extensive selection process.

The decision to partner with Strawberry reflects Swedavia Real Estate’s confidence in their ability to manage a facility of this scale and complexity. The new hotel is poised to become a landmark not just for Stockholm, but for the entire Nordic region, offering a seamless blend of luxury, convenience, and functionality for travelers, business professionals, and event organizers.

Interest in operating the hotel was substantial, underscoring the significance of this project within the hospitality industry. Following a rigorous evaluation, Strawberry emerged as the preferred operator, bringing their expertise and reputation to this landmark development.

This milestone underscores Arlanda Airport’s growing prominence as a hub for international travel and reinforces Stockholm’s position as a key destination for business and leisure in the Nordic region.

“The need and demand for airport accommodation at Arlanda remains high. It feels fantastic for us to be able to offer a full-service hotel of this size as part of Arlanda’s development. We are very pleased that the new hotel will be operated by Strawberry. The hotel will be a strong complement to the existing hotel offering at Arlanda and an important arena for the opportunity to meet at Sweden’s largest airport,” says Jesper Sandahl, CEO of Swedavia Real Estate.

With decades of experience in the Arlanda hotel market, dating back to the 1990s, Strawberry currently operates three properties at the destination, offering nearly 1,400 rooms and demonstrating a deep understanding of the local hospitality landscape.

“This is a very good day. We are entrusted with running what will be the Nordic region’s largest airport hotel. But for us, this is not just about offering another hotel. This is about continuing to contribute to developing Arlanda as an airport and its strong position as an attractive airport. Fundamentally, a major international airport like Arlanda is crucial for a globally competitive business sector and a thriving labor market,” says Petter Stordalen, owner of Strawberry.

The upcoming hotel will feature a spacious congress hall accommodating up to 1,400 attendees, alongside conference facilities designed for approximately 400 guests. It will also boast a restaurant offering diverse dining concepts and vibrant social spaces, complemented by a lush, green courtyard that provides a tranquil retreat for visitors.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first guests welcomed in early 2029. Once operational, the hotel will offer a full range of amenities conveniently located next to Terminal 5 and SkyCity.

Tentatively named “Skywalker,” the hotel will be managed by Quality Hotel, part of Strawberry’s renowned hotel chain. As one of the largest chains in the Nordic region, Quality Hotel is celebrated for its exceptional conference services and family-friendly offerings. Guests can expect features like children’s menus in the restaurant, a Social Lounge equipped with family-friendly games, and a welcome kit for kids featuring a special greeting from Lollo & Bernie.
