Stomp the Rhythm at MITEC for Earth Hour

The Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) turned off the venue’s non-essential lights and joined millions of people and organisations worldwide in “going dark” on 24 March from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, in support of World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour.

As the clock hit 8.30pm, all non-essential interior lightings, facade and exterior signage lights as well as LED wall displays were switched off, with glow in the dark wristbands, mood lights, UV face paint and flameless tiny tealight candles providing the only illumination, as a symbolic call to action to protect our planet.

During the event, the venue not only turned off all non-essential lights but hosted a performance by Stomp the Rhythm, pushing the limits of “STOMP”ing through arrays of beats and tones using percussion instruments from recycled materials. Recycling never looked so fun!

“We believe in the importance of being environmentally friendly. In addition to supporting this initiative, we have a policy in place towards good eco practices, such as recycling waste material and conserving energy. We are excited to join the Earth Hour movement as this is the first year we’re taking part and hope to continue doing so every year,” said Gunther Beissel, Chief Executive Officer, MITEC.

He added, MITEC’s business mandate deeply involves green and environment preservation practices, thus participating in the Earth Hour as part of the venue’s #myWorld campaign is a natural extension towards the same.

Over 200 team members, their families and industry partners attended MITEC’s Earth Hour gathering this year.

MITEC’s #myWorld campaign was launched in January 2018 with an inaugural event to promote a sustainable future. The team who joined forces with volunteers from the Sentul Police District, Sri Hartamas Fire Department and representatives from Alam Flora WPKL Segambut took part in the 2-hour clean-up operation, got their hands dirty and helped remove litter around the 2,000 sqm Dutamas neighbourhood and public areas to create a healthier, cleaner and better place for quality living.
