The Standard, High Line has appointed Dieter Schmitz as its new Managing Director, adding a highly experienced luxury and lifestyle hospitality leader to the iconic Meatpacking District hotel. Schmitz brings more than two decades of experience in managing upscale properties, leading hotel openings, major renovations and strategic repositioning projects across the United States.
Before joining The Standard, High Line, Schmitz served as General Manager of Sofitel New York, where he guided a major transformation of the property, including the renovation of all 398 guest rooms and key public areas. During his tenure, he focused on enhancing service quality and strengthening the overall guest experience. His leadership helped the hotel achieve its strongest results in guest satisfaction, employee engagement and financial performance throughout its 25-year history.

Schmitz previously held the position of General Manager at Lore Group’s Riggs DC, where he played a key role in launching the company’s first U.S. property. He later led the development, opening and operations of ADERO Scottsdale, Autograph Collection, following a $100 million redevelopment project. His career also includes successfully opening and managing three newly built Manhattan hotels under IHG, with each property earning high guest satisfaction ratings, strong employee engagement results and recognition among TripAdvisor’s Top 25 Hotels in the United States.
Throughout his hospitality career, Schmitz has overseen eight major hotel launches, renovations and redevelopment projects across major U.S. destinations including New York, Washington D.C., Arizona and California. His extensive background includes leadership roles with global hospitality brands such as Accor, IHG and Marriott, along with independent luxury hotel groups, positioning him to further strengthen The Standard, High Line’s reputation as a leading lifestyle destination.

With a strong focus on operational excellence, Schmitz will work to further strengthen the hotel’s position within New York’s dynamic hospitality market. He will oversee initiatives designed to improve service standards, elevate guest satisfaction and support the property’s long-term growth.
