May is Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month in the US, and IHG Hotels & Resorts, one of the world’s leading hotel companies, is joining with Executive Chef Kevin Tien of the Moon Rabbit restaurant at the InterContinental Washington D.C. – The Wharf to raise awareness and combat the recent rise in hate and violence against the AAPI community.

Beginning today, and continuing through the end of the month, hotel guests and diners at seven InterContinental Hotel & Resorts properties across the country are invited to enjoy a special dish crafted by Chef Kevin – Kampachi Crudo – with sales of the dish benefiting Stop AAPI Hate (stopaapihate.org). Kampachi Crudo features Hawaiian Kampachi sliced into six sashimi pieces, atop segments of cara cara oranges, with nuoc cham, citrus oil, cilantro & yuzu tobiko. Kampachi Crudo is one of Chef Kevin’s signature dishes and well known by his fans, combining his background of Japanese cuisine and flavors of his Vietnamese background.

Participating InterContinental hotel properties include: InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, InterContinental San Francisco Moscone, InterContinental San Diego, InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta, InterContinental Houston Medical Center, InterContinental Cleveland and InterContinental Boston. Additional information, including how to contribute directly to Stop AAPI Hate.

Kevin Tien said: “The AAPI community consists of millions of Americans from diverse backgrounds with distinct cultural experiences. It’s been incredibly difficult to witness the violence and hate against my fellow Americans in recent months, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to confront it head on with the support of my culinary colleagues, customers and partners like IHG.”

Chef Kevin’s ongoing work to support the AAPI community includes the successful “DC Chefs Stopping Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Hate” campaign, which features 45 chefs in the DC area hosting special events and selling pre-packaged meals to raise awareness and funds for Stop AAPI Hate. To date, that effort has raised approximately $150,000.

Elie Maalouf, CEO, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Americas said: “Hospitality is a business fundamentally about welcoming and connecting people from all places and cultures – this is at the heart of our purpose to provide True Hospitality for Good around the world. We continue to be inspired by the work of Chef Kevin to support the AAPI community and are honored to join with him this month to Stop AAPI Hate.”

IHG is committed to building on a culture of investing in its people, focusing on promoting wellbeing in the workplace, respecting and advancing human rights, and providing equality, inclusion and fairness for all. The company champions these values in our communities, and throughout our hotels globally, help drive social and economic change.
