The Furano Sustainable Action Promotion Group (FSAPG) hosted a comprehensive GSTC Sustainable Tourism Workshop aimed at enriching the knowledge of local tourism operators in Furano, Hokkaido, Japan. This immersive, three-day workshop conducted in Japanese from November 28th to November 30th, 2023, was spearheaded by esteemed GSTC Trainer, Dr. Mami Futagami, a revered Professor Emeritus from Meijo University. Dr. Futagami imparted her extensive experience through engaging practical demonstrations and insightful discussions.

During the workshop, attendees were treated to a field trip to Torinuma Park, a verdant oasis in Furano City known for its captivating emerald green pond and home to over 400 plant species. This visit underscored discussions on critical topics such as:

This GSTC Sustainable Tourism Workshop offered vital insights and tools necessary for advocating and implementing sustainable tourism initiatives. It highlighted the importance of adhering to the GSTC Criteria, which sets the global benchmark for sustainable travel and tourism practices. Through the integration of both worldwide and regional case studies, the workshop significantly enriched its curriculum.

Participants who completed the course were awarded a certificate, marking their newfound expertise, with the option to pursue a GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism by passing an additional official examination.
