The proposed CLA24 collective labor agreement for Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) cabin personnel has been endorsed through a referendum by the members of the kapers cabin crew union. With a significant voter turnout of 87.6%, 79.1% of the referendum votes were in favor of accepting the CLA. The agreement, negotiated and settled between SWISS and kapers in early November, introduces salary increases and incorporates various enhancements in the working terms and conditions for the cabin crew, addressing the diverse needs of SWISS’s approximately 3,500 employees in this sector.

Expressing his satisfaction with the outcome, SWISS CEO Dieter Vranckx stated, “I am delighted that CLA24 has been approved by the members of kapers, and by such a substantial majority. This positive referendum result confirms to us that our new collective labor agreement for our cabin personnel lays a sound foundation on which we can build and shape a successful shared future.”

The approval of CLA24 is viewed as a pivotal moment in SWISS’s post-corona recovery journey. The company plans to invest around CHF 200 million in the next five years to enhance the working conditions of its cabin crew, acknowledging their significant contribution to the company’s success.

Among the key provisions of CLA24 are salary adjustments, improved predictability, and increased individual choices for cabin crew members. The full-time basic monthly salary for all SWISS cabin crew members will see an increase of CHF 400, along with a two-percent inflation-based salary rise and higher expense rates. Notably, crew members with three or more years of service can opt for a variable compensation linked to SWISS’s business results or receive a guaranteed partial (and later full) 13th-month salary payment.

In addition to financial benefits, SWISS is prioritizing the quality of life for its cabin crew under CLA24. Monthly duty rosters will now be published a week earlier, on the 18th of the preceding month, facilitating better social life planning. The introduction of seven fixed free days in each monthly roster, extended reporting time for standby duties, and the provision of new part-time working models tailored to various needs further contribute to the positive changes brought about by CLA24.
