Swiss International Air Lines profited from the high volumes during summer air travel to a record for the 2023 third-quarter period which increased further on the already robust earnings from the year’s first half. In the leisure travel segment, customer demand was mainly high.

SWISS generated an operating profit of CHF 615.9 million in the first nine months of 2023. This was a development of almost 114% on the year before with CHF 287.5 million and the result of the sturdiest nine-months result in its over 20-year history. For the nine-month period, total revenues were raised 26.4% to CHF 4.0 billion.

Markus Binkert, SWISS Chief Financial Officer, said that he is proud as well as thankful that their SWISS team that succeeded to attain such a promising operating result in the main summer months. In doing so, he added that they have reinforced their financial foundation even more; and they have shown that by overcoming the pandemic situation, they can also stand firmly on their feet from a longer-term perspective.

Binkert continues saying that in the third quarter as well, they have benefited from the fact that the demand industrywide for air travel have surpassed the available capacity. Working to their gain were the competitive cost structures that they had given themselves through their restructuring in response to the pandemic.
