Tallinn’s Christmas Market, a cherished annual event, is set to enchant visitors from November 22 to December 27, 2024, in the historic Town Hall Square.

A Historic Tradition

The centerpiece of the market is a towering Christmas tree, a custom that has graced Town Hall Square since 1441, making it one of Europe’s oldest public Christmas trees.

This year, a nearly 16-meter-tall spruce from Saku will be adorned with thousands of lights, illuminating the square and creating a magical atmosphere.

Festive Offerings

Surrounding the grand tree, charming wooden stalls offer a variety of handcrafted gifts, seasonal delicacies, and warming beverages.

Visitors can find unique presents, including alpaca wool products and handmade Christmas ornaments, directly from local artisans. For those with a sweet tooth, the market features exclusive handcrafted truffles and freshly baked cinnamon-cardamom rolls.

Traditional Estonian fare such as blood sausages, sauerkraut, and holiday roasts are also available, alongside international flavors like smoked reindeer cheese soup and Asian-style bao buns.

A Feast for the Senses

The air is filled with the enticing aromas of gingerbread and mulled wine, enhancing the festive ambiance.

The market boasts one of Europe’s most extensive selections of mulled wine, featuring flavors like cranberry-cherry and sea buckthorn-mandarin punch.

Visitors can enjoy these beverages in reusable cups, reflecting the market’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Entertainment and Activities

Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the market’s stage comes alive with performances by local and international artists, including folk dancers and choirs.

A highlight of the season is the lighting of the first Advent candle on December 1, accompanied by speeches from city officials and performances by church choirs.

Children can delight in visits with Santa Claus at his cozy house and enjoy rides on three carousels, including a brand-new addition this year.

Recognition and Accolades

The Tallinn Christmas Market has garnered international acclaim, with Forbes magazine including it in its list of the top 10 Christmas markets in Europe to visit in 2024.

This recognition highlights the market’s unique charm and its role in preserving and celebrating Estonia’s rich cultural heritage.

The market operates daily from 10:00 to 20:00, with hot drinks available until 22:00 on weekdays and 23:00 on weekends.
