The anticipated opening of a museum dedicated to the Japan-originated digital art collective, teamLab, is set to take place on February 9, 2024, within Tokyo’s newly inaugurated Azabudai Hills complex. There are strong expectations that their immersive installations, which leverage advanced technology, will attract a significant number of international tourists.

Previously located along Tokyo’s Odaiba waterfront, the museum made its relocation public on Monday, now featuring approximately 50 installations that extensively utilize projectors and various lighting to create a seamless art world.

Among the exhibits is the newly introduced “Bubble Universe,” an installation enveloping visitors in a room filled with luminous spheres, simulating an environment brimming with myriad soap bubbles.

Another interactive piece, “Universe of Water Particles on a Rock where People Gather,” presents a digitally simulated waterfall cascading over a rocky surface, where visitors’ interactions can alter the water’s flow.

The museum is situated on the basement floor of Azabudai Hills, unveiled in November as Japan’s tallest skyscraper at 330 meters, located in Tokyo’s Minato Ward.

Admission fees are set at 3,800 yen ($26) for adults over 18, with a concessionary rate for younger visitors.

The original exhibition space in Odaiba, inaugurated in 2018, achieved a Guinness World Record as the world’s most frequented museum dedicated to a single art group, drawing about 2.2 million guests in 2019 alone.

teamLab has established both temporary and permanent displays globally, with locations including New York City, London, and Beijing, showcasing their unique blend of art and technology.

This move is poised to bolster travel and tourism by offering both local and international tourists, as well as businesses, a new and compelling destination. The museum’s innovative approach to art, combined with its strategic location in Tokyo, is expected to enhance the cultural and tourism landscape, inviting exploration and engagement from visitors worldwide.
