In 2023, the Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta, a highly celebrated new golf course, gears up for another year of widespread acclaim. This follows the renewal of its partnership with Azalea, a prominent marketing and communications firm.
This golf course, a par-71 marvel situated near Lisbon and crafted by David McLay-Kidd, marks his inaugural venture into mainland Europe. It has garnered international attention since its debut in June, earning accolades such as the ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’ and ‘Europe’s Best New Golf Course’ at the 2023 World Golf Awards.
The course has received glowing reviews from players and industry professionals across the UK, Europe, and beyond. Rodrigo Ulrich, the golf director at Terras da Comporta, anticipates even greater achievements following the renewal of their contract with Azalea.
Ulrich credits the remarkable first-year success of the Dunas Course to Azalea’s exceptional public relations efforts, which have significantly elevated Terras da Comporta’s status as a premier golfing destination. He expresses optimism about the future growth of their global recognition, driven by Azalea’s expertise.
Set amidst 84 hectares of natural sandy terrain on the coast, near the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve and just an hour south of Lisbon, the Dunas Course offers an exclusive, serene golfing experience.
Accompanying the announcement with Azalea, Terras da Comporta has unveiled a fresh collection of photographs of the Dunas Course by emerging golf photographer James Hogg. These images, taken during his visits in January and November, showcase the course in a stunning new perspective.
Andy Barwell, director of Azalea, remarks on the rare media fascination that the Dunas Course has sparked. He expresses pride in collaborating with Rodrigo and the Terras da Comporta team and looks forward to contributing to the site’s evolution.
Owned by Vanguard Properties, Portugal’s leading real estate developer, Terras da Comporta encompasses two major developments: Torre, covering 365 hectares and set to feature a second golf course designed by Sergio Garcia in 2025, and Dunas, spanning approximately 1,011 hectares.
Enhancing the Dunas Course will be a new clubhouse and golf academy. Besides golf, the resort will offer a variety of lifestyle activities such as horse-riding, wellness, tennis, padel, pickleball, and other sports. It will also provide a selection of plots for hotels, tourist, and residential condominiums.
