Today, Textron Aviation unveiled that Cessna Citation CJ2 owners will soon have the opportunity to upgrade their aircraft with the latest all-Garmin CJ2 avionics at any of the company’s worldwide service network sites. This enhancement is set to follow supplemental type certification, anticipated to be completed in the first half of 2024.

Textron Aviation Inc., a subsidiary of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT), provides direct factory support, maintenance, and modifications to Beechcraft, Cessna, and Hawker customers worldwide through its extensive network of service centers, mobile units, and 24/7 1CALL AOG assistance.

The cutting-edge Garmin avionics upgrade, featuring the G600 TXi flight display, TXi EIS, GTN™ 750Xi FMS/NAV/COMM, and GFC™ 600 digital autopilot, delivers advanced capabilities tailored for the CJ2 cockpit. This upgrade introduces specialized situational awareness functions designed specifically for the CJ2, including Stabilized Approach monitoring and aural V-speed alerting during takeoff. Optionally, customers can also include enhancements such as Garmin’s GWX 8000 StormOptix weather radar, GDL® 60 datalink for the PlaneSync™ connected aircraft management system, and more.

“At Textron Aviation, we’re committed to supporting customers throughout their ownership journey,” said Brian Rohloff, senior vice president, Customer Support. “We’re proud to bring this Garmin modernization package suite to CJ2 customers and support pilots as missions and technology evolve.”

As the aircraft’s original equipment manufacturer (OEM), Textron Aviation possesses a unique capability to deliver the OEM-certified upgrade for the all-Garmin CJ2 avionics system. This ensures that the integrity of the system remains in accordance with its initial certification. Customers will have the flexibility to opt for this upgrade installation at any Textron Aviation service center, regardless of its location, be it domestic or international.

Rod McDermott, a seasoned Citation owner and operator, is anticipated to become the inaugural CJ2 customer to benefit from the enhanced capabilities and improved functionality of the new Garmin avionics suite. Based in southern California, McDermott typically flies solo, covering average trip distances ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 miles. He undertakes approximately six coast-to-coast trips each year in his Cessna Citation CJ2.

“One of the things I appreciate is how excited Textron Aviation is to offer this upgrade and breathe new life into an amazing aircraft platform that could be flying for another 20, 30 years,” said McDermott. “By working with Garmin, they’re giving the CJ2 a whole new utility level for single pilot operation. And the fact that Textron Aviation is supportive of upgrades for aircraft no longer in production — that makes me really excited about working with this company.”

The Cessna Citation CJ2 light jet accommodates up to nine passengers, boasts a range of 1,585 nautical miles, and made its inaugural flight in 1999. Textron Aviation manufactured over 200 CJ2s until the year 2006.
