Thailand is considering attracting more foreign visitors after the pandemic period by upholding itself as a medical tourism hub, banking on its positive track record of dealing with the pandemic, said Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha.

A virus task force headed by Prayuth will also think about the demands to reopen bars, pubs and other nightlife amusement venues that have remained closed for more than a year in spite of a recovery in tourist arrivals. The easing and taking away of the restrictions are expected to attract more visitors during the June-September period, which is thought to be a down time for Thai tourism.

The Thai PM said that Thailand has a confirmed track record regarding tackling the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that they would use this to support Thailand’s medical tourism and health treatment to get foreign visitors after the pandemic ends.

Thailand is expecting tourist arrivals to more than triple to about a 1 million every month from October, with the country dismissing majority of its pandemic-time travel restraints. Thailand has got rid of its compulsory Covid testing and quarantine for all incoming tourists, pre-arrival registration and requirement of insurance, which are indeed blocks since other tourism-dependent nations having already doing away with most restrictions.

However, with new Covid cases and fatalities declining day by day, the Thai PM has vowed to loosen up the remaining restrictions to increase business and economic activities, said the government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana.
