Preparations are ongoing for the popular World Songkran Festival, with an impending meeting all set to happen next week, as per a recent declaration provided by the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, on February 8th. The conference is a cooperative initiation between the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Culture, the private sector, and other pertinent agencies, will mainly target on delineating locations, activity plans, and festival budgets.
The main aim of the World Songkran Festival, as per Thapanee is to create income surpassing that of 2019 level. In Bangkok, Siam Square, Ratchadamnoen Road, Asiatique, ICONSIAM and the Chao Phraya River have been planned to be the highlighted as the main destinations.
Moreover, other preferred tourist locations in areas like Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Hat Yai are set to emphasize a midnight Songkran theme to attract all international tourists, mainly those from Malaysia. Nonetheless, the World Songkran Festival will take place in all 76 provinces distributed all over Thailand and 50 Bangkok districts, Thapanee confirmed.
The World Songkran Festival is yet another huge event for tourism after the Chinese New Year Celebration with an expected 177,000 Chinese tourists visiting the festival during the long holidays.
