The chief executive of Agoda, an online travel agency, has declared that the introduction of casinos and related attractions will significantly enhance Thailand’s tourism sector. During a press conference in Bangkok, Omri Morgenshtern expressed confidence that the country is on track to break foreign arrival records in 2025, particularly as the government plans to develop its first large-scale entertainment complex, which will include a casino.

Morgenshtern likened the potential tourism boom to that of Macau and Las Vegas, emphasizing the importance of complementary experiences such as shows, dining, and luxury accommodations that typically accompany gambling venues. He cited Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands as a successful model, highlighting the need for diverse attractions, including amusement parks and museums, to cater to family tourism.

With Thailand witnessing a 29% increase in foreign arrivals during the first ten months of this year compared to 2023, the tourism industry remains a vital component of the nation’s economy. The government is targeting 40 million arrivals and 3.4 trillion baht in tourism revenue for next year, a goal Morgenshtern believes is achievable if global travel demand remains robust.

However, Morgenshtern expressed concern over a proposed electronic travel authorization (ETA) scheme that could deter visitors due to potential fees and complications in the application process.
