Pattaya has seen a significant rise in Indian tourists over the past few months, following Thailand’s newly introduced free visa policy for Indian nationals. The initiative, aimed at boosting tourism, has nevertheless led to a range of issues for both locals and visitors. A large portion of these Indian tourists have flocked to Pattaya’s beaches, where a growing number are engaging with service women for companionship. This trend has, unfortunately, coincided with a troubling uptick in thefts and violent incidents, sparking concerns within the community.
The lack of awareness about local customs, coupled with the visible display of luxury items like jewelry and high-end gadgets, has made these tourists easy targets for criminals. Reports of theft have surged, with valuables such as wallets, watches, gold necklaces, phones, and even larger items being snatched. More concerning, however, are the increasing instances of physical assaults on tourists during attempted robberies.
Pattaya’s once peaceful beach areas, known for their calm and leisure, are now increasingly congested with large groups of tourists.
As Pattaya deals with this sudden change, local authorities face mounting pressure to tackle the rise in criminal activity and ensure the safety of both tourists and residents.
