The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Klook, a prominent platform for travel services and experiences in Asia, have entered into a Letter of Intent for a Strategic Partnership. This agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in advancing and promoting high-quality tourism experiences throughout Thailand.
TAT Governor, Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, said “The time could not have been better for TAT and Klook to support each other in promoting Thailand as a top tourist destination. We have set our goals to collaborate and create comprehensive joint marketing with Klook to promote quality tourism experiences in the kingdom for the ASEAN, South Asia, and South Pacific Market. Our country is well-recognised as a friendly destination with rich tourism resources that can definitely serve the needs and demands of these markets.”
“We are excited to team up with TAT to enrich tourism in Thailand with a diverse range of meaningful and exclusive experiences that best reflect the destination, from iconic activities to hidden gems,” said Eric Gnock Fah, COO & Co-Founder, Klook. “At the same time, we want to help boost income to local communities and strengthen Thailand’s sustainability profile, stimulating economic growth across the wider industry.”
The agreement between TAT and Klook aims to deepen collaborations in promoting awareness and boosting travel demand for Thailand. This partnership leverages Thailand’s soft power to offer meaningful travel experiences in both primary and secondary cities, emphasizes sustainable and community tourism, and embraces digital transformation to drive growth in the Thai tourism industry.
Klook’s Travel Pulse survey indicates a shift in travelers’ priorities towards experiential travel, focusing on local cuisine, cultural immersion, iconic landmarks, and special events. In response, Klook plans to expand its offerings in Thailand, introducing curated experiences aligned with the country’s top five must-do activities. For instance, travelers can now book tickets to thrilling Muay Thai matches in Bangkok or immerse themselves in the festive ambiance of the Siam Songkran Music Festival 2024 to celebrate Songkran and explore local traditions.
Moreover, the collaboration between Klook and TAT will facilitate seamless bookings for a wide range of services including accommodations, curated experiences, and local attractions, providing travelers with comprehensive itineraries. By integrating technology and local expertise, Klook aims to enhance the global traveler’s experience during major festivals while showcasing Thailand’s diverse cultural heritage and hospitality.
Additionally, Klook is committed to empowering local communities by digitizing small and medium-sized operators, thus enabling them to reach a broader audience and contribute to sustainable travel practices. This includes supporting elephant sanctuaries and responsible tour operators, ensuring travelers make informed choices that promote animal welfare and benefit local communities.
Thailand’s tourism sector has shown significant growth, with a 44% increase in foreign tourist arrivals and an expected surge in bookings for tourism packages. Klook anticipates doubling its bookings for Thailand this year, reflecting travelers’ increased willingness to allocate budgets for unique experiences. Moving forward, TAT and Klook will continue positioning Thailand as a premier destination for quality tourists seeking authentic, meaningful, and responsible travel experiences.
