The Batanes provincial government has started its gradual reopening of tourism from May 15 by relaxing its travel restrictions after being closed for tourists for two years in the wake of the pandemic.

However, only fully vaccinated tourists can now enter the province for leisure activities, since the provincial government had already got rid of the quarantine requirements upon arrival, said its Gov. MarilouCayco.

Cayco said that this is a relatively smallopening of the local tourism. They will only accommodate a maximum of 50 tourists every week.

In an advisory on May 15, the Batanesprovincial government spoke about the reopening of local tourism as a “trial period” until June 30. Governor Cayco said that all the rules for the experimental recommencement of tourism-related activities in the Batanesprovince have beenpermitted by the local pandemic response task force.

As per the guidelines issued by the provincial government, children who are less than 5 years old and those who are disqualified for vaccination are barred from entering the province.

All tourists would also need to book with tour operators and accommodation facilities that are recognized by the Department of Tourism (DOT) prior to their visits.

TheBatanesprovincial government said that there will be no incidental tourists, since booking need to be done in advance with the help of the DOT-accredited tour operators and a certificate of acceptance.
