In the mountainous areas of Jammu, with the drop in temperature, tourists from all over India are rushing to all the distinguished spots in the state.
Patnitop, the famous hill resort has been experiencing a major rush of visitors of late. Besides Vaishno Devi, the picturesque areas like Bani, Bhaderwah, and Basohli have been attracting visitors in huge numbers in Jammu.
A 42 year old gentleman with the name Saiyansh Gupta from Madhya Pradesh was in Patnitop together with his wife and kid. He said that in Kashmir, because of the recent targeted killings, his family took the decision to come to Jammu after talking to his friends here.
In 2022, J&K has witnessed a record number of tourists. Around 1.62 crore tourists, including Vaishno Devi and Amarnath pilgrims, had come to the UT from January to early October 2022, as per official records.
The government of Jammu and Kashmir of late had claimed that in Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, the tourism sector had generated maximum employment. Also, homestays are rising in numbers in the UT, pulling tourists in far off and unexplored areas.
The earlier governments have been accused of intentionally not paying attention to the tourist spots in Jammu.
A resident of Rajasthan, Stuti Sharma, 28 years old, who visited Nathatop along with her husband, said that such picturesque areas were not there even in Himachal Pradesh that she had visited in 2021.
