The Ryanair passenger racially abuses a woman

A white man David Mesher racially abused 77-year-old Delsie Gayle on flight FR9015 from Barcelona to Stansted. The incident has invited sharp criticism and Ryanair is under pressure to apologise.

David Lawrence filmed the incident, and his video went viral on Facebook where it has been seen seven million times. David Mesher was identified by neighbours and his former colleague.

Some of the words said by the white man were ‘Ugly black bastard’, ‘I’ll tell you this, if you don’t go to another seat, I’ll push you there’, ‘don’t talk to me in a foreign language, you stupid ugly cow.’

Mrs. Gayle told a news channel that she is not being able to recover from the incident because every time she remembers the incident she cries.

The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, said that Barcelona ‘wouldn’t take this lying down.’

She added that legal action will be initiated where the video will be used a proof. It will be done not only to punish the racist person but also to force Ryanair to change its procedures such that the victims are supported and not the aggressors.

Since the plane was on the tarmac at Barcelona Airport, the case is being investigated by the Spanish Police.

A Change petition has been signed by more than 215,000 people, calling for Ryanair’s apology and compensation for Mrs. Gayle.
