Recently, the Uttarakhand government has simplified all norms for the visitors to this Himalayan state as India enters Unlock 4.0 phase. Tourism is one of the main industries of the state and has incurred major losses as the sector experienced complete shutdown due to sudden virus outbreak. At present, as India is slowly reopening all its sectors and has entered Unlock 4.0, Uttarakhand government has paid attention of the same and is all geared up to draw maximum tourists once again. The cap of 2000 visitors per day won’t be there any longer as it was one of the main curbs in place for the ones aiming to visit Uttarakhand; before, the state was allowing only 200o visitors a day from other states along with e-permits. This decision was made after demands from different stakeholders in the industry were raised. The unexpected virus outbreak followed by the lockdown to deal with the steam created an immense effect on Uttarakhand religious tourism, another major source of revenue generation that the state is also home to the renowned Char Dhams.
State Cabinet Minister, Madan Kaushik, has elucidated on the new guidelines in place, “The visitors have to register themselves on a state government smart city portal smartcitydehradun.uk.gov.in and produce Covid negative report ranging in the last 72-hours.”
