Tokyo, snow,

Tokyo hit by heavy snow, causing chaos: flights grounded, trains stopped, roads closed, and power outages. Stay safe and avoid travel if possible.

A big snowstorm in Tokyo caused a lot of trouble for people trying to get around. Trains stopped running and more than 100 airplanes couldn’t take off because of the snow. The government told people to stay off the roads if they didn’t have to go anywhere.

The weather service said the snow was going to be the heaviest on Monday night, and some places near Tokyo could get as much as 21 inches of snow.

In the center of Tokyo, they saw a little bit of snow for the first time in two years, about 0.4 inches.

Around 40 people got minor injuries because they fell on the slippery snow, according to the TV news.

Some trains didn’t run like usual, and they had to close parts of the big roads around Tokyo.

There were about 550 people stuck on two trains that couldn’t move, and they had to walk to the next station.

Over 100 flights inside Japan and a few international ones from Tokyo’s big airport were canceled by Monday afternoon.

More than 14,000 houses in Tokyo and the area around it lost power, probably because of the snow.

The government also told drivers to make sure their cars were ready for winter with special tires or chains for the snow.
